What it is
Ample China Xun is a virtual instrument built around the xun, an ancient Chinese vessel flute with a breathy, haunting tone dating back over 7,000 years. It's built from 4.5 GB of samples covering 22 articulations split into head, body, and special-effects groups, including sustain, tonguing, slides, and trills. Ample's Intelligent Legato System handles the transitions between notes automatically, so phrases sound continuous rather than stitched together from separate samples.
Who it's for
Composers scoring film, TV, or game music that calls for authentic East Asian color, and producers looking for an organic monophonic wind voice beyond the usual orchestral or ethnic-instrument presets.
Key features
- Riffer 4, Ample's dedicated MIDI editor, generates realistic phrasing and expression for monophonic wind lines from simple input
- Five microphone positions with three mixing modes let you dial in everything from a close, dry tone to a distant, ambient one
- Built-in EQ, compressor, delay, and convolution reverb handle shaping and mixing without leaving the plugin
- Runs as VST2/3, AU, or AAX on macOS 10.15+ and Windows 7-11 (64-bit)
