What it is: FM 1984 is a virtual instrument built around multisampled sounds created with FM synthesis. Its 136 original programs cover electric keys, bells, pads, leads, basses and evolving digital textures. Rather than recreating one specific vintage synthesizer, it combines sounds associated with the early digital era with more contemporary patches. An integrated effects section lets you add movement, space and character inside the instrument.

Who it's for: Producers looking for ready-made digital keyboard sounds can use it for bright melodic parts, sustained layers and bass lines. The program-based approach suits musicians who want to start with a playable sound rather than build an FM patch from individual operators. Its palette offers options for retro-inspired arrangements and electronic productions that need crisp tones alongside softer background layers.

Key features: The Complete edition includes 136 programs and approximately 1.6 GB of sample content. Its source material comes from custom-designed FM sounds. Built-in effects provide additional shaping within the instrument. Installation packages are offered for Windows and Mac.
