What it is
Augmented Woodwinds is a hybrid instrument from Arturia that blends dynamically sampled woodwinds - flute, clarinet, oboe, and more - with four built-in synth engines (Virtual Analog, Granular, Wavetable, and Harmonic). Each preset stacks two layers, each holding two sound sources, so real reed and breath textures can morph into synthesized tones and back. The result ranges from lifelike orchestral woodwinds to processed, otherworldly hybrids.
Who it's for
Film and game composers who need convincing woodwind parts without a full orchestral library, and sound designers who want organic breath and reed textures as raw material for synthesis. It also suits producers building cinematic or ambient tracks who want an instrument that sits between sampled realism and synth flexibility.
Key features
- The library includes 56 articulations sampled across the woodwind family
- Four synth engines - Virtual Analog, Granular, Wavetable, and Harmonic - sit alongside the sampled layers for morphing and sound design
- Over 300 factory presets cover both realistic and processed woodwind tones
- Built-in effects, an arpeggiator, and reverb/delay sends round out the instrument, and it supports MPE for expressive control
