What it is

Bus Compressor 2 is SSL's digital emulation of the center section compressor from their 1980s G Series analog console - the bus compressor credited on countless classic recordings. It adds glue, punch, and low-level drive to full mixes and subgroups without crushing dynamics. The 2021 update expanded the original with new attack, release, and ratio options, wet/dry mixing, a side-chain high-pass filter, and 2x/4x oversampling.

Who it's for

Mix engineers and producers who want to add cohesion to a stereo bus or glue individual groups like drums, synths, or guitars. It works best on material where you want that classic SSL "bigger mix" character - controlled transients, a slight forward push, and mono-compatible low end.
