What it is
Cellotron 1976 is a Kontakt instrument built from chromatic recordings of the Elka Cellotron, a rare 1970s string machine from Italian manufacturer Elka. Every note was recorded directly from the original hardware with no pitch shifting, capturing the warm, slightly detuned ensemble character that defines these instruments. The developers also sampled the instrument's built-in sounds combination, so the characteristic layered third voice plays exactly as it came from the original keyboard - not a reconstruction.
Who it's for
Film composers and ambient or electronic producers looking for authentic vintage string textures. The Cellotron's lush, slightly imperfect sound sits well under pads, in cinematic arrangements, or anywhere you want a Mellotron-style string bed with a distinctly Italian character.
