What it is
The Roland D-50 is a software recreation of the iconic 1987 hardware synthesizer that defined the sound of late-80s pop, film scores, and ambient music. It uses LA (Linear Arithmetic) synthesis - a hybrid approach combining sampled attack transients with digitally synthesized sustain tones - to recreate the original's lush pads, crystalline bells, and atmospheric textures. Built with Digital Circuit Behavior modeling, it captures the sonic character of the original hardware down to its characteristic warmth and digital shimmer.
Who it's for
Producers making cinematic, ambient, pop, or lo-fi music who want authentic 80s keyboard sounds without sourcing vintage hardware. It's also a natural fit for composers who rely on lush pads, choir textures, and the shimmering bell tones that made the D-50 a studio staple for decades.
