What it is
The JD-800 is a software recreation of Roland's classic 1991 digital synthesizer. It's a PCM digital synth built on D-50-style waveforms with multimode resonant filters, using a four-layer architecture where each layer acts as its own mini synthesizer with independent modulation routing and time-variant envelopes. It's known for a big, bright, spacious sound - especially rich pads, evolving textures, and that distinctly nostalgic early-90s digital character.
Who it's for
Synth enthusiasts and electronic producers chasing that early-90s digital sound, particularly for lush pads, ambient textures, and retro-futuristic leads.
