What it is
Liminal Abstract Strings Vol.1 is a Kontakt viola library from Crocus Soundware built around deeply recorded, aleatoric articulations. Instead of clean melodic playing, it captures long, evolving performances - the bow's collision with the string, sustained tremolo bursts, ricochets, and rebows - across solo, small-ensemble, and large 20+ performer recordings. Microphones were placed within centimeters of the instrument's sound-holes, fingerboard, and bridge to capture hyper-intimate detail, and the result leans toward naturalistic, humanistic pads rather than traditional soaring string lines.
Who it's for
Composers and sound designers scoring cinematic, ambient, or horror material who want organic, unpredictable string textures instead of standard legato or staccato patches. Well suited to anyone layering atmospheric pads under a mix or building tension through creative imperfection rather than melody.
