What it is
Looma by Addwave is a generative MIDI plugin that creates chords and melodies using randomness constrained by music theory. Instead of making sounds itself, it outputs MIDI that you route to any instrument in your DAW. It is available as VST3 and AU for Mac and Windows.
Who it's for
Producers and songwriters who hit creative blocks and want fresh melodic and harmonic ideas that stay in key. It suits anyone who likes to audition lots of ideas quickly and keep the best ones.
Key features
- Five theory filters (chord tone, pentatonic, avoid note, no repeat, and smooth) keep generated notes harmonically sensible
- It manages an 8-step chord progression across three independent voices
- Pitch ranges, note probability, and durations are all adjustable, with visual feedback showing eligible scale notes
- Drag-and-drop MIDI export puts ideas straight into your DAW
