What it is
MDrumCleaner is a bleed-removal plugin from Melda Production, built for cleaning up multi-mic drum recordings. It combines five processing algorithms that can be used separately or together to isolate each drum from the spill of the rest of the kit. It runs as VST, VST3, AU and AAX on Windows 10/11 and macOS 10.14 or later.
Who it's for
Engineers and producers who record or mix live acoustic drums and fight hi-hat and cymbal spill on snare and tom mics. Also useful for anyone cleaning up multitracked drum sessions they did not track themselves.
Key features
- Cymbal Killer filters out the high frequencies and only opens the top end when the drum is actually hit
- A dedicated gate handles the usual drum-triggered gating tasks
- Side-chain Remover uses spectral processing to pull out specific bleed sources
- Spectrum Cleaner and Spectrum Gate learn a drum's fingerprint and strip away extraneous frequencies
