What it is
SubBoomBass II is Rob Papen’s bass-centric synthesizer and sequencer, built on the engine from his award-winning Predator synth. It combines two oscillators with analog-type and tuned percussion waveforms, an updated X/Y screen for shaping multiple parameters at once, and Karplus-Strong string synthesis for extra sonic range beyond straightforward bass tones. The plugin also ships with tuned drum samples so bass patterns can carry their own rhythmic character, plus a bank of 128 factory presets built around classic and modern synth bass sounds.
Who it's for
Producers working in hip-hop, R&B, EDM, and other bass-driven genres who want a dedicated tool for building low-end synth lines and drum-synced bass patterns, rather than hunting through a general-purpose synth's preset browser for the right sub tone.
Key features
- 6-voice polyphony across two oscillators with analog-modeled and tuned percussion waveforms
- Built-in 16-step drum/bass sequencer with pattern mode for chaining up to four sequences
- Dual-filter design pairs a stereo multi-mode analog-modeled filter with a second filter offering 6dB, 12dB, 24dB, or switchable lowpass/highpass slopes
- Effects section covers delay, chorus, flanger, phaser, wah, and compression, all tempo-syncable and MIDI-modulatable
