What it is
Tetrad is a physically modelled synth plugin developed collaboratively with composer Gadi Sassoon, inspired by an experimental sculpture-based sound installation. Four voices are processed through a chain that includes amplitude modulation, a quad granulator, and physically modelled plate resonators -- all drawn from the acoustic behavior of materials in that original installation. The result is a hybrid instrument that sits between acoustic resonance and electronic synthesis, producing complex timbres that shift and evolve in ways standard synths cannot replicate.
Who it is for
Producers and composers working in ambient, cinematic, or experimental genres who want textures grounded in physical resonance. It is a strong fit for anyone building evolving pad layers, tonal grain clouds, or harmonically rich sound design elements where organic movement matters.
Key features
- Five oscillator modes span Basic, Chord (36 diatonic tetrads), Modal, Micro (microtonal tuning), and Flex (harmonic partials)
- A 4x4 matrix mixer blends the four voice channels across the processing chain in flexible configurations
- The quad AM processor uses phase offset to generate pseudo-arpeggiator and rhythmic pulsing effects
- Physically modelled plate resonators provide resonant depth, each with independent panning and level controls
