What it is
RC-20 Retro Color is a multi-effect plugin from XLN Audio built to add vintage character to clean digital audio. It combines noise, wobble, saturation, bit reduction, and reverb in a single interface. It works as a plugin in VST, AU, and AAX formats and also runs standalone.
Who it's for
Producers working in lo-fi, hip-hop, synthwave, and other genres where tape, vinyl, and old-hardware texture matters. It suits anyone who wants to dirty up drums, samples, or whole mixes without stacking multiple plugins.
Key features
- The noise generator covers vinyl crackle, tape hiss, and ambient studio noise
- Wobble and flutter modules simulate the pitch instability of worn analog playback devices
- Saturation and distortion range from subtle warmth to aggressive grit
- Degrader and bitcrusher modules recreate the sound of vintage digital gear, and volume drops mimic tape wear
