What it is
VP Gate Keeper II is a VCA-style noise gate and expander plugin from Antelope Audio, modeled on the Kepex II, a 1970s hardware unit built around the Valley People TA-101 VCA chip that became a staple in gold-record studios and helped shape the drum sounds of '70s and '80s pop and rock. Instead of a hard on/off gate, it works through the grey area between open and closed using a Logarithmic Release mode that protects the falling tails of gated material. It cleans up unwanted noise and artifacts while keeping the source sounding natural, even at extreme settings.
