What it is
PSP Wobbler is a modulation effect plugin developed in collaboration with legendary recording engineer Alan Parsons. It recreates the Frequency Translator - a handmade experimental device built by Keith Adkins that produced the signature pitch wobble on the female backing vocals of "Time" from Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon. Rather than using conventional chorus or vibrato circuits, it relies on frequency shifting to create non-harmonic phase differences, resulting in a modulation feel that blends phasing, flanging, and the Doppler-like quality of a rotating speaker.
Who it's for
Producers and mixers working in rock, psychedelic, lo-fi, or experimental genres who want a modulation effect with genuine character and history. It's especially effective on vocals, synths, and guitars when you want movement that sounds organic and three-dimensional rather than digital.
Key features
- Frequency shift up to +/-25 Hz, controllable manually or set as a tempo-synced clock division
- Drive and Age controls add saturation and vintage degradation, with Ageing modes that apply these to the wet signal alone or to both wet and dry paths
- Separate Feedback, Drift, Phase, and stereo Spread controls give fine-grained control over the modulation's texture and width
- Upper and lower frequency range limits let you focus the effect on specific parts of the frequency spectrum
