What it is
The UADx Oxide Tape Recorder is UA's dedicated tape emulation plugin, designed to inject the warmth, harmonic saturation, and low-end punch of analog tape into individual tracks or a mix bus. It models the frequency response, harmonic distortion, and dynamic compression characteristics of real tape machines, with controls for tape speed (7.5 and 15 IPS), two emphasis curves, and input/output gain for dialing in the amount of saturation.
Who it's for
Producers working in the box who want to add the cohesion and character of tape without committing to a full analog chain. It works well on drums for punch and glue, on vocals for subtle warmth, and on mix buses to add the kind of top-end smoothness that digital recordings sometimes lack.
Key features
- Two tape speeds (7.5 and 15 IPS) give distinct tonal characters - 7.5 IPS adds more low-end warmth and compression, 15 IPS is tighter and brighter
- Two emphasis curves let you push the frequency response toward different vintage machine characters
- Simple Input/Output controls make it easy to drive the saturation without getting lost in menus
- Compatible with Apollo interfaces for real-time tracking through the tape emulation with minimal latency
