What it is
The UADx UA 175-B and 176 Tube Compressor Collection emulates two of the rarest hardware units from the early 1960s - both designed by Bill Putnam Sr. The feedback compression circuit behaves differently from modern compressors: it applies gentler gain reduction at lower input levels and harder limiting as levels climb, which gives compression a natural, program-dependent feel. Both units also add tube amplifier and transformer saturation that can be used independently of any compression.
Who it''s for
Producers and engineers looking for vintage tube character on vocals, drums, guitars, or synths. The ability to use each unit as a tone box - adding harmonic saturation without triggering compression - makes this collection useful even on sources where you don''t need traditional dynamic control.
Key features
- Feedback compression circuit delivers softer, more natural-feeling compression behavior compared to feedforward designs
- Ratio settings from 2:1 to 12:1 cover gentle leveling through hard limiting
- Dry/Wet Mix parallel processing with Headroom control allows blending in compressed signal alongside the original
- Tube amplifier and transformer saturation modes add harmonic richness as a standalone tone effect
