Description

BIRDS by Harmonox Audio is a Kontakt instrument and open WAV library built from real bird recordings for ambient music, cinematic sound design, and natural texture layering. It gives you six bird species across 131 round-robin samples recorded at 48 kHz / 24-bit, so the core material can work either as playable Kontakt patches or as raw audio dropped straight into a DAW.

The library is most useful when you want organic motion rather than a polished orchestral instrument. The Kontakt interface keeps the controls simple, with per-sound tuning, reverb, and volume plus a random pitch option for less repetitive movement.

Because the WAV files are included openly, BIRDS is not locked to Kontakt for basic use. Producers can chop, stretch, pitch, and layer the recordings in any sampler, while Kontakt users get a faster way to audition the bird calls from one mapped instrument.

The main limitation is compatibility: the custom NKI presets require the full retail version of Kontakt 5.8.1 or later and do not run in the free Kontakt Player. Harmonox currently lists the product at $0 on its official site, despite the original BPB lead describing the Pluginomat launch as a limited-time offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does BIRDS work in Kontakt Player?

No. The Kontakt presets require the full retail version of Kontakt 5.8.1 or later, so the free Kontakt Player is not enough for the NKI instrument.

Can I use the sounds without Kontakt?

Yes. Harmonox includes the sample content as open WAV files, so the recordings can be dragged into a DAW, sampler, audio editor, or sound-design session without loading Kontakt.

What kind of sounds are included?

The library focuses on bird calls and songs from six species. The lead source and KVR listing both describe 131 round-robin samples recorded at 48 kHz / 24-bit.

Is this more useful for music or post-production?

It can work for both. The WAV files make it practical for film, game, and ambience work, while the Kontakt mapping makes the recordings easier to play, pitch, and layer inside musical arrangements.
