Description
Roots: Dust Piano by Westwood Instruments is a Kontakt Player piano library built from a Yamaha UC3 upright prepared with cotton for a grainy, nostalgic tone. It is issue three in the Roots series, a set of intentionally simple instruments designed around a small control set rather than deep editing.
Westwood adds two haunting textural layers around the piano source, giving Dust Piano more atmosphere than a straight upright patch while keeping the instrument immediate. The current official Roots page still presents the series as Free, with checkout used to issue a serial rather than to charge for the library.
The sound leans intimate and cinematic: dusty enough for lofi sketches, emotional scoring, and indie keys, but not so degraded that the piano stops feeling playable. External coverage also points to five presets, Ashes, Dust Piano, Faded Future, Film Grain, and Shadowlands, which frame different shades of its aged character.
Dust Piano currently requires Kontakt Player or Kontakt Full 8.9 or above, macOS 14 or higher, or Windows 10/11. Downloads are handled through a Westwood account, emailed serial, and Native Access 2, so SSA should link to the official page rather than mirror an unverified archive.
