Key Features

  • Spectral EQ curve reshapes the whole mix with low-end reinforcement and smoother high-mid energy.
  • FURY saturation stage adds harmonic drive and analog-style thickness, with enough range to become aggressive quickly.
  • SURGE and FURY can each be reduced or disabled, so the EQ contour and saturation are usable separately.
  • Top-down workflow encourages placing the plugin on the master bus early and mixing into its tonal foundation.
  • Simple one-knob-style interface keeps the focus on broad mix character rather than detailed corrective moves.
  • Works beyond the master bus on drum groups, guitar buses, or individual tracks that need weight and attitude.
  • Powered by Ablaze DSP development while retaining Justin Laureano's master bus processing concept.

Description

AURA is a master bus enhancement plugin from Laureano Studios that combines a broad spectral EQ curve with harmonic saturation. It is built for top-down mixing, giving the whole mix more density, weight, and forward motion before the rest of the balance is finished.

The workflow is intentionally simple, but the processing is not transparent. SURGE applies the tuned EQ contour for low-end reinforcement and high-mid smoothing, while FURY adds the aggressive saturation stage that can be used lightly or switched off when only the tonal curve is needed.

AURA makes the most sense on modern rock, metal, and dense electronic mixes where the bus needs attitude rather than surgical correction. It can also work on drum buses, guitar buses, and individual tracks when you want a finished, transformer-like push from a small control set.

The plugin came from Justin Laureano rebuilding a master bus preamp tone he had relied on inside an older amp plugin. Current third-party listings corroborate the Windows and macOS plugin formats, version 1.0.1 availability, and permanently free pay-what-you-want Gumroad distribution.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of processing does AURA apply?

AURA combines a fixed spectral EQ-style tone curve with a saturation stage. The result is broad tonal shaping, added density, and harmonic drive rather than transparent mastering correction.

Should AURA go before or after a limiter?

Justin Laureano describes using it on the master bus as part of a top-down workflow and mixing into it. In a typical mastering-style chain, that means placing it before the final limiter so the limiter catches the level changes after AURA.

Can SURGE and FURY be used separately?

Yes. The official Gumroad copy says SURGE can be scaled back or turned off, and FURY can also be disabled if you only want the EQ component.

Is AURA subtle enough for clean mastering?

It can be dialed back, but the developer explicitly frames it as non-transparent processing. Use it when the mix needs color, impact, and forward character instead of neutral corrective polish.
