Description
Big Stuff by Nembrini Audio is a plugin emulation of the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff, one of the most iconic fuzz and distortion pedals in music history. Known for its thick, violin-like sustain and rich harmonic saturation, the original pedal shaped the guitar tones of Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, and countless others since the early 1970s.
The plugin recreates this legendary circuit with three straightforward controls: Volume, Sustain, and Tone. The Tone knob functions as a combined high-pass and low-pass filter, letting you sweep between dark, woolly bass tones and bright, cutting lead sounds.
A dedicated -15dB switch provides a useful gain reduction option for rhythm playing and situations where you want the Big Muff character without overwhelming the mix. This same switch helps tame high-end fizz when dialing in heavier sustain settings.
Beyond guitar, the plugin has earned praise for its performance with synthesizers and keyboards. Users report excellent results running it in front of Minimoog, OBX, and Hammond emulations, where its saturated harmonic content adds weight and presence to electronic tones.
Nembrini Audio has built a strong reputation for accurate analog circuit modeling, and Big Stuff is widely regarded as one of the most authentic Big Muff emulations available in plugin form. The plugin runs natively on Apple Silicon and is also available on iOS for mobile production workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Big Stuff work well with synthesizers and keyboards?
Yes. Multiple users report that Big Stuff sounds excellent in front of synthesizer and organ emulations, including Minimoog, OBX, Taurus, and Hammond-style plugins. Some users actually prefer the plugin on synths over guitar, as the saturated harmonic content adds weight and presence to electronic tones.
What does the -15dB switch do?
The -15dB switch reduces the output gain by 15 decibels. This is particularly useful for rhythm guitar parts where you want the Big Muff's tonal character without overpowering the mix, and it also helps tame high-end fizz when using higher sustain settings.
How does the Tone control work on Big Stuff?
The Tone knob is a combined high-pass and low-pass filter, similar to the original pedal's circuit. Turning it left rolls off the highs for a darker, warmer sound, while turning it right cuts the lows for a brighter, more aggressive tone. It is an effective way to match the fuzz character to different guitar pickups and amplifier settings.
Does Big Stuff require Nembrini Audio Central to install?
Yes. The plugin is downloaded and installed through the Nembrini Audio Central application, which manages installation and licensing for all Nembrini Audio products. Central is available as a free download from the Nembrini Audio website.
