Description
CRB Uranus 1 is a Windows software recreation of a very rare mid-1970s Italian polysynth, built by SM Strumenti Musicali contributors Marcello Colo and Marco Molendi. It turns the original CRB Elettronica Uranus 1 concept into a standalone instrument and VST3 plugin with the same imposing dual-side panel logic as the hardware.
The instrument focuses on characterful vintage synthesis rather than a simplified modern subtractive layout. Its source instrument used eight oscillators split into left and right sections, with VCF, VCA, LFO control and a built-in drum machine, and the plugin follows that mirrored architecture while adding practical software conveniences.
For producers, the appeal is the unusual workflow: two symmetrical four-voice sections, dense hands-on controls, and a sound lineage that sits outside the usual Moog, ARP, Roland, and Oberheim emulation lane. The included installer also provides a manual, a demonstration video, and 10 presets created to introduce the instrument's core tones.
Use it when you want pads, drones, leads, and retro electronic textures with a less familiar vintage flavor. The current release is Windows-only, so Mac users should treat the developer's hinted future macOS version as unconfirmed until an official build appears.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who made CRB Uranus 1?
The software version was created by Marcello Colo and Marco Molendi and published through SM Strumenti Musicali. It is a tribute to the CRB Elettronica Uranus 1 hardware synth from Ancona, Italy.
What makes the Uranus 1 different from common vintage synth emulations?
It is based on an unusually rare Italian instrument rather than the more common Roland, Moog, ARP, or Oberheim targets. The dual mirrored panel and split-style architecture give it a more unusual workflow than many modern virtual analog synths.
Does CRB Uranus 1 include presets?
Yes. The official article says the installer includes 10 programmable memories/presets, with descriptions and audio demos for each.
Is there a macOS version?
The current public release is Windows-only. Bedroom Producers Blog noted that a macOS version may be coming, but the official download page currently lists only the Windows installer.
