Description
Cygnus by Krakli Software is a space-themed synthesizer built in collaboration with sound designer Tim Conrardy. Inspired by recordings of pulsars and other celestial phenomena, it uses three distinct tonal sources mixed in stereo through a chain of sound modulators to produce otherworldly textures.
The synth's defining feature is its triple sequencer system, where each of the three rows can function as either a step sequencer controlling note pitch or a configurable LFO shaping tonal movement. This creates constantly evolving, unpredictable patterns that suit ambient soundscapes and deep atmospheric work.
Cygnus ships with 384 patches covering a wide range of space-inspired tones, from ethereal drifting pads and shimmering sequences to dark, unsettling drones and alien sound effects. A stereo chorus and delay section add further depth and spatial character to the output.
The interface takes its cues from star maps and constellations rather than conventional synth layouts. A switchable label system lets you toggle between the artistic GUI and a more readable view that identifies each control, making it accessible once you want to dig deeper into sound design.
Cygnus is a 32-bit Windows VST instrument built with SynthEdit. It has earned a dedicated following among ambient and experimental producers looking for sounds that sit outside conventional synthesis.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Cygnus work in 64-bit DAWs?
Cygnus is a 32-bit VST plugin, so it requires a 32-bit to 64-bit bridge like jBridge or the built-in bridging in some DAWs to run in a 64-bit host. Some users run it successfully this way, though native 64-bit operation is not supported.
Can the sequencers sync to host tempo?
The three sequencer rows in Cygnus operate independently and are primarily designed for internal modulation. Host tempo sync is not explicitly documented, so the sequencers may run at their own rates. Experimenting with the speed controls is recommended.
Is there documentation for the controls behind the constellation GUI?
Cygnus was intentionally designed without conventional documentation to encourage experimentation. However, the switchable label feature reveals the name and function of each control when toggled on, which serves as a built-in reference guide.
What are the different versions of Cygnus?
Krakli released three Cygnus variants: the original space-themed version, Cygnus-O with a more conventional GUI that is easier to navigate, and Cygnus-SF which adds three user-loadable SoundFont modules to the original engine. All three are available from the Krakli Plugins archive.
