Description
EQ6 by NoirSonance is a 6-band parametric equalizer plugin that comes in two distinct versions: EQ6 (w) for transparent, clean equalization, and EQ6 (b) for harmonic-rich tonal shaping. Both variants give you six fixed-frequency bands spanning from 60 Hz up to 19 kHz, each with its own independent processing engine and a gain range of +/-16 dB.
The (w) version uses wide bell curves with logarithmic scaling, delivering pure equalization without any coloration. It keeps your audio faithful to the source while allowing broad tonal adjustments, making it well suited for mixing and mastering tasks where neutrality matters.
The (b) version behaves more like a saturator than a traditional clean EQ. Boosting bands introduces harmonics and affects the dynamics of the signal, adding grit and punch that works particularly well on percussion and drums.
It excels at giving kicks deeper body and snares extra snap. The harmonic coloration makes it a go-to choice when you want character rather than clinical precision.
Both versions feature stepped knobs for precise incremental adjustments, double-click value entry, and right-click reset. Each band operates on its own separate processing engine, resulting in smooth filtering behavior and low CPU usage across any DAW.
The plugin favors ear-driven mixing over visual analysis, shipping without a built-in spectrum analyzer. This stripped-back approach encourages critical listening and keeps the interface focused entirely on tonal shaping.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between EQ6 (w) and EQ6 (b)?
EQ6 (w) is a clean, transparent equalizer with wide bell curves that preserves the original character of your audio. EQ6 (b) behaves more like a saturator, adding harmonics and affecting dynamics when you boost bands. Choose (w) for neutral mixing and mastering work, and (b) when you want to add grit, punch, and coloration to drums, percussion, or other sources.
Why doesn't EQ6 have a spectrum analyzer?
NoirSonance intentionally designed EQ6 without a built-in spectrum analyzer to encourage ear-driven mixing. The philosophy is that relying on visual feedback can lead to over-processing, while training your ears to make EQ decisions produces more musical results. If you need visual analysis, you can pair EQ6 with a separate spectrum analyzer plugin.
Can EQ6 be used for mastering?
The (w) version is well suited for mastering tasks thanks to its clean, transparent processing and wide bell curves that make broad tonal adjustments without introducing artifacts or coloration. Its smooth filtering behavior and independent processing engines per band help maintain clarity across the full frequency spectrum.
Does EQ6 have automatic gain compensation?
No, EQ6 does not include automatic gain compensation. When boosting or cutting bands, you will need to manually adjust your output level to maintain consistent volume. This is standard for many EQ plugins, and level-matching by ear or with a separate metering tool ensures accurate A/B comparisons.
