Description

Flux Mini by Caelum Audio is a modulation effect plugin that brings rhythmic movement and tonal animation to static sounds. It routes audio through a customizable envelope graph that can modulate amplitude, a low-pass filter, or a high-pass filter, making it effective for fake sidechain compression, tremolo effects, and tempo-synced filter sweeps.

The plugin's standout feature is its drawable LFO shape editor, where you can create custom modulation curves by adding and adjusting control points. Only one modulation target can be active at a time, keeping the interface focused and the workflow fast.

A resonance knob lets you add emphasis to the filter modulation for sharper, more pronounced sweeps. The LFO runs in sync with your DAW's tempo or in free-running mode, and an optional live waveform visualizer shows the modulation shape in real time.

Version 1.1.0 introduced MIDI triggering, allowing MIDI note-ons to retrigger the envelope or fire envelope one-shots for performance-oriented use. The plugin ships with 20 presets covering everything from subtle ducking patterns to aggressive rhythmic gates.

Flux Mini is now marked as a legacy product, with Caelum Audio offering Flux Mini 2 as its successor featuring multi-parameter modulation and MIDI CC output. The original remains a solid, lightweight choice for producers who want simple, effective modulation without complexity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Flux Mini modulate multiple parameters at the same time?

No, the original Flux Mini can only target one parameter at a time: amplitude, low-pass filter, or high-pass filter. If you need simultaneous multi-parameter modulation, Caelum Audio's Flux Mini 2 adds that capability along with band-pass filtering and mix control.

Does Flux Mini require a license key to activate?

Yes. After installing the plugin, a licensing window appears on first launch. You need to paste the license code found in your Caelum Audio account under Account > Licences. An active internet connection is required for the one-time activation.

How does Flux Mini compare to Xfer Records LFO Tool?

Both plugins use drawable LFO curves for tempo-synced modulation. LFO Tool offers additional targets like pan and pitch, plus more advanced MIDI control. Flux Mini focuses on amplitude and filter modulation with a simpler, more streamlined interface that is quicker to learn.

Is Flux Mini still being updated or should I use Flux Mini 2?

Flux Mini is now listed as a legacy product on Caelum Audio's website. Flux Mini 2 is the actively maintained successor with additional features like multi-parameter modulation, band-pass filtering, and MIDI CC output. Both versions remain available for download.
