Description
Four EP by SampleScience is a sample-based electric piano instrument built on the Maize Sampler engine. It delivers four distinct electric piano tones created from scratch using additive and FM synthesis, then resampled at multiple velocity layers for expressive, dynamic playback.
The default preset captures the warm, bell-like character of a classic Wurlitzer, while the remaining three patches explore 80s and early 90s digital keyboard territory. The overall sound leans toward a clean, digital piano aesthetic with a light and soft quality that sits well in sparse arrangements.
The interface keeps things deliberately minimal with just the controls you need to shape each sound. A volume ADSR envelope handles dynamics, while a multi-destination LFO modulates pitch, amplitude, or pan for movement and vibrato effects.
A built-in lowpass filter lets you tame brightness or darken the tone for lo-fi textures, and a hall reverb adds spatial depth without reaching for external processors. Cranking the LFO rate and depth controls produces shimmering, evolving textures that work particularly well for ambient and chillout production.
Four EP runs on both Windows and macOS as a 64-bit plugin supporting VST, VST3, and AU formats. It requires only 290 MB of disk space and minimal CPU resources, making it a lightweight addition to any session that needs quick, characterful electric piano parts.

Four EP includes four distinct patches: the default preset delivers a warm, Wurlitzer-inspired bell-like tone, while the other three explore classic 80s and early 90s digital keyboard sounds. All four were created using additive and FM synthesis, then resampled at multiple velocity layers.
Can Four EP be used for lo-fi music production?
Yes, Four EP is well suited for lo-fi production. The built-in lowpass filter lets you roll off highs for a muted, vintage feel, and the LFO modulation adds subtle pitch wobble and movement. Its light, soft sonic character naturally lends itself to lo-fi hip-hop, chillout, and downtempo tracks.
Does Four EP support Apple Silicon Macs?
Four EP requires macOS 10.12 or later and runs as a 64-bit AU, VST, or VST3 plugin. While the developer lists macOS 10.12+ compatibility, users on Apple Silicon Macs can run it natively or through Rosetta 2 depending on your DAW configuration.
