Description

LowCutPolice is a Windows VST3 equalizer built for low-end cleanup, combining a minimum-phase EQ engine with a very high-resolution spectrum display. Its core job is to make sub-bass mud, rumble, and narrow low-frequency conflicts easier to see before you cut them.

The analyzer uses an 800-band filter-bank design rather than a standard FFT display, with the 1 Hz to 60 Hz region shown in 0.2 Hz steps. That makes it more CPU-intensive than a typical analyzer, but it gives unusually fine visual feedback for kick, bass, and room-rumble decisions.

The EQ section covers more than simple high-pass filtering. Low-cut and high-cut filters run from gentle to steep 12-96 dB/oct slopes, while four bell bands cover 10 Hz to 25 kHz with broad shaping or very narrow notches.

LowCutPolice also includes practical checking tools for detailed repair work. Listen Diff lets you monitor the dry-wet difference signal, Solo-Sweep helps isolate a narrow band while hunting resonances, and Flat or Auto V display modes make small low-frequency changes easier to read.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is LowCutPolice only a low-cut filter?

No. The plugin is centered on low-end cleanup, but it also includes a high-cut filter and four full-range bell bands. The bell bands cover 10 Hz to 25 kHz, so it can handle narrow corrective EQ moves outside the sub region too.

Why does the analyzer use more CPU than a normal spectrum display?

The official README says LowCutPolice uses an 800-band filter-bank analyzer rather than a standard FFT display. That design gives much finer sub-bass resolution, but the developer notes that hundreds of filters are heavier than a typical FFT and very low bands settle slowly by nature.

Does LowCutPolice add latency?

The official system requirements list latency as 0 samples with no plugin delay compensation required. Its filters are minimum-phase IIR designs rather than linear-phase filters.

Which DAWs are officially supported?

OTODESK lists Ableton Live 11+ as the only fully tested and verified host. Other VST3 hosts may work, and the source article reports a successful Studio One test, but those hosts are not officially supported by the developer.
