Description

LV-50A by ViatorDSP is a four-band parametric equalizer that takes inspiration from several classic hardware EQ units. Each band offers adjustable gain, Q, and cutoff frequency with a proportional Q design, meaning the bandwidth narrows as you increase the filter gain for smooth tonal shaping at subtle settings and more focused, aggressive cuts or boosts when you push it harder.

Beyond the four parametric bands, LV-50A includes switchable high-pass and low-pass filters inspired by mastering-grade hardware. A Drive slider on the output stage adds analog-style saturation that automatically disables when set to 0 dB, keeping the signal path clean and the CPU footprint low.

The plugin supports 8x oversampling, which significantly improves accuracy in the high frequencies at the cost of additional CPU usage. When oversampling is off, idle bands and filters automatically disengage their processing circuits to conserve resources, making it practical for use across multiple tracks in a session.

An analog-style VU meter provides real-time visual feedback as you shape your signal. The low and high bands can switch between bell and shelf modes, and a dedicated phase invert button and one-click reset round out a surprisingly deep feature set for a lightweight EQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does LV-50A have shelf EQ bands?

The low and high bands can switch between bell and shelf modes, giving you the option for broad tonal tilts on the extremes. The two mid bands are bell-only with proportional Q behavior.

How does the proportional Q work in LV-50A?

Proportional Q means the bandwidth automatically narrows as you increase the gain of a band. At low gain settings the EQ curve is wide and smooth, while at higher boosts or cuts it becomes tighter and more focused. This mimics the behavior of classic analog hardware equalizers.

Does LV-50A support Apple Silicon Macs?

Yes, LV-50A runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, and later) as well as Intel-based Macs. Both architectures are supported in the macOS download.

What does the Drive knob do?

The Drive slider introduces analog-style saturation on the plugin's output stage. When set to 0 dB, the saturation circuit completely disengages to save CPU and keep the signal transparent. Increasing Drive adds harmonic warmth and subtle coloration.
