Description

Mangling Audio is a glitch sample library by Poztman, published through 99Sounds. It delivers over 300 individual sounds built from databending experiments, extreme time-stretching, creative convolution, and raw data processing.

The library splits into two main sections: 149 percussive one-shots covering glitch hits, bass drones, and processed vocals, plus 183 audio loops and raw sequences. Every sound originated from unconventional techniques -- feeding non-audio data through audio editors, misusing software tools, and processing raw binary files to extract usable textures.

Poztman won the first 99Sounds Music Making Contest with his track Crystalline Chant, and this library represents his signature approach to sound design. The one-shots range from sharp transient clicks to deep sub-frequency rumbles, while the loops offer everything from stuttering rhythmic patterns to evolving noise textures.

Four NKI patches for Kontakt 5 are included alongside the raw WAV files. The first patch maps all one-shot samples across seven full octaves for playable performance, while three additional patches provide mapped drum kits and processed vocal layers.

All audio is delivered in 24-bit WAV format at 44.1 kHz stereo, with a 287 MB download size that expands to 547 MB on disk.

Frequently Asked Questions

What techniques were used to create Mangling Audio?

Poztman used databending (feeding non-audio data into audio editors), extreme time-stretching, creative convolution, and raw data processing. These unconventional methods produce sounds that cannot be achieved through traditional synthesis or sampling.

Do I need Kontakt to use Mangling Audio?

No. The core library is 332 standalone WAV files that work in any DAW or sampler. The four NKI patches are a bonus for Kontakt 5 users, mapping the one-shots across the keyboard for playable performance.

What genres work best with these glitch samples?

The library suits IDM, glitch hop, ambient, experimental electronic, and sound design for film or games. The percussive one-shots also work well layered into techno, dubstep, and breakbeat productions for added texture.

Can I use Mangling Audio in commercial projects?

Yes. All samples are 100% royalty-free. You can use them in commercial music releases, video productions, games, and any other creative project without additional licensing fees.
