Description

Marazmator is an experimental monophonic synthesizer by Stone Voices (Vasily Makarov), built over more than a decade of development in Delphi. It specializes in generating unusual sound forms ranging from abstract soundscapes and evolving drones to mechanical textures and one-shot sound effects.

The engine centers on three oscillators offering sine, triangle, sawtooth, and reverse sawtooth waveforms. These oscillators can be mixed together or paired as frequency and multiplied modulation sources across nine switchable interaction modes, with amplitude distortion and bit reduction shaping the raw signal.

Filtering goes well beyond the standard fare, featuring a virtual pipe filter that simulates acoustic resonance based on geometric dimensions. Additional biquadratic, Butterworth, and Chebyshev filter types handle conventional low-frequency and high-frequency sculpting.

A built-in pattern sequencer drives rhythmic loops and evolving phrases, while flanger and reverb effects add spatial depth. The reverb module delivers notably rich ambient textures and draws from the developer's standalone Ambient Reverb plugin.

A powerful randomization engine can shuffle every parameter at once, making Marazmator a highly effective tool for discovering unexpected sonic territory. Factory preset banks, sequencer patterns, and documentation in English and Russian are included with the installer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Marazmator polyphonic or monophonic?

Marazmator is a monophonic synthesizer by design, since its experimental sound forms generally lack traditional musicality. To achieve polyphony, load multiple instances of the plugin in your DAW and assign each to a separate MIDI channel.

How CPU-intensive is Marazmator?

CPU usage varies significantly depending on which modules are active. The pipe filter is the most demanding component, consuming roughly 40% of processor resources on an older i3 system when engaged. Simpler patches without the pipe filter run much lighter.

What types of sounds can Marazmator produce?

Marazmator excels at abstract soundscapes, evolving drones, mechanical and industrial textures, and one-shot sound effects. It suits genres like ambient, industrial, noise, drum and bass, and experimental electronic music, and works well as an SFX generator for games, film, and theatrical productions.

Does Marazmator include presets?

Yes, Marazmator ships with extensive factory preset banks and sequencer patterns. The presets demonstrate the full range of the synthesizer's capabilities, though some are noticeably louder than others so watch your output levels when browsing.
