MICRONIX
Key Features
- All 24 Mutable Instruments Plaits synthesis models cover virtual analog, FM, wavetable, granular, physical-modeling, and percussion-oriented voices in one mono instrument.
- Three model-aware macros for Harmonics, Timbre, and Morph expose different musical controls for each engine instead of presenting one fixed parameter set.
- OUT and AUX signal blending creates additional tonal variations from the original Plaits engine outputs.
- Five LFO shapes offer free-running or DAW-synced movement, with phase and retrigger controls for repeatable or evolving modulation.
- A four-row modulation matrix combines source, via, destination, and bipolar amount controls, with direct MAP assignment to supported targets.
- ADSR and low-pass gate modes support either conventional amplitude contours or the distinctive Plaits-inspired Decay and Color response.
- Randomize/Restore, real-time waveform and envelope views, modulation indicators, meters, and a resizable interface speed up patch exploration.
Description
MICRONIX is a monophonic software synth from Push and Groove that brings all 24 Mutable Instruments Plaits synthesis models into a DAW instrument. Its engine spans virtual analog, FM, wavetable, granular, physical-modeling, and percussion-oriented sounds, with three model-specific macro controls for Harmonics, Timbre, and Morph plus a blend of Plaits' OUT and AUX signals.
A five-shape LFO can run freely or lock to host tempo, while a four-row matrix routes sources, modifiers, destinations, and bipolar amounts. The available sources include velocity, mod wheel, aftertouch, key tracking, the amplitude envelope, and the LFO, so a basic bass or lead patch can be developed into a more animated performance.
For amplitude shaping, MICRONIX switches between a conventional ADSR and the Plaits-style low-pass gate mode with Decay and Color controls. Retrigger and legato modes, glide, octave shifting, MIDI pitch bend, and an on-screen keyboard with Hold make the instrument geared toward playable mono parts rather than chord work.
The interface also includes model-and-macro randomization with one-step restore, a real-time waveform display, envelope visualization, modulation indicators, output meters, and resizing. Push and Groove lists 64-bit Windows VST3 support plus Universal macOS AU and VST3 support for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
Frequently Asked Questions
What synthesis models does MICRONIX include?
MICRONIX includes all 24 models from the Mutable Instruments Plaits DSP, including virtual analog, FM, wavetable, granular, physical-modeling, and percussion approaches. Each model repurposes the three macro controls with labels that reflect its particular sound-shaping role.
Is MICRONIX polyphonic?
No. The official page describes MICRONIX as a monophonic instrument, with Retrigger and Legato performance modes, glide, octave shifting, and MIDI pitch bend aimed at basslines and leads. MICRONIX PRO is the related product that adds two engines and polyphony.
How does its low-pass gate mode work?
MICRONIX can use a standard ADSR amplitude envelope or an LPG mode based on the original Plaits behavior. In LPG mode, Decay and Color shape the response for short, naturally decaying, or more percussive sounds.
Can I create movement without drawing automation?
Yes. The five-waveform LFO can run freely or sync to the DAW, and the four-row modulation matrix can route LFO, envelope, velocity, mod wheel, aftertouch, and key tracking to supported destinations. Randomize can also choose a new model and macro settings, while Restore returns to the preceding state.
