Key Features

  • Six-voice Polysix-inspired synth engine focused on classic analog pads, strings, basses, and simple one-oscillator programming
  • Saw, pulse-width, and PWM waveforms with a dedicated PWM LFO and sub oscillator for thicker vintage synth tones
  • SSM2044-style 4-pole lowpass filter with resonance, bipolar envelope intensity, and key tracking for broad analog-style shaping
  • NoisySix-inspired noise sources and extended MG shapes add extra modulation movement beyond the stock Polysix layout
  • Polysex-style pitch-envelope and voice-spread controls create detuned, animated chords and unison patches
  • ModyPoly-style portamento improves glide behavior across poly, 2-voice unison, 3-voice unison, and 6-voice mono modes
  • Triple BBD-modeled chorus, phaser, and ensemble effects provide the wide modulation character that defines many Polysix-style patches

Description

MOODYSIX is an Overload Audio virtual instrument modeled on the 1981 Korg Polysix, built around six-voice analog-style synthesis, a one-oscillator voice structure, a sub oscillator, and a 4-pole lowpass filter. It keeps the character limitations of the original intact, including six-voice polyphony and no velocity response, while adding useful expansions from classic Polysix hardware mods.

The synth is strongest when you want immediate vintage pads, strings, basses, and slightly unstable analog motion without opening a modern modulation workstation. Its NoisySix, Polysex, and ModyPoly-inspired additions bring noise sources, extra MG shapes, pitch-envelope movement, voice spread, and smoother portamento into the same simple Polysix workflow.

The onboard chorus, phaser, and ensemble section is central to the sound, giving the instrument the wide, hazy movement associated with early-80s polysynth patches. The arpeggiator, hold, chord memory, unison modes, and 32 factory presets make it more than a static nostalgia piece, especially for producers who want quick synthwave, indie electronic, ambient, or retro pop layers.

Overload Audio currently lists MOODYSIX as a free pay-what-you-want Gumroad product with no sales limit shown in the product data. The download still runs through Gumroad, so SSA links to the official product page instead of mirroring private purchase-page files.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MOODYSIX a strict Korg Polysix clone?

MOODYSIX is modeled on the 1981 Korg Polysix and keeps several original limitations, including six voices and no velocity response. It also adds features inspired by well-known Polysix hardware mods, so it is not only a plain stock-instrument recreation.

What do the NoisySix, Polysex, and ModyPoly additions do?

The NoisySix-style section adds noise generators and extra MG waveforms, Polysex-style controls add pitch-envelope movement and voice spread, and the ModyPoly-style behavior improves portamento across voice modes. Together, they make the synth more flexible while keeping the vintage Polysix workflow recognizable.

Why does SSA link to Gumroad instead of hosting the installer?

Overload Audio distributes MOODYSIX through Gumroad, and the official instructions refer to files available from the user's Gumroad purchase page. Because those files are not exposed as stable public direct downloads, SSA links to the official product page.

Does MOODYSIX support Intel Macs?

The official format note says macOS supports VST3 and AU, but also says it does not work on Intel Macs just yet. Windows users get VST3 support according to the same official format section.
