Key Features

  • Layers up to eight wave, sample, FM, phase-distortion, resonator, and air sources in a single voice.
  • Combines 33 band-limited wavetables, imported wavetable support, factory samples, and user sample playback with granular, loop, and one-shot modes.
  • Adds six-operator FM, Casio CZ-style phase distortion, and modal or waveguide-string resonators for contrasting sound-generation approaches.
  • Provides two filters per source plus two on the summed signal, supported by source envelopes, LFOs, a modulation matrix, and eight macros.
  • Models bucket-brigade ensemble, chorus, and echo, then extends patches with phaser, slicer, BBD delay, three reverb types, and lo-fi treatments.
  • Includes chord, arpeggiator, hold, MIDI-note output, 282 factory presets, visual scopes, built-in tips, and a full manual.

Description

Aetheriae is a hybrid texture synthesizer that layers up to eight sources per voice, combining wavetable, sample, granular, FM, phase-distortion, resonator, and air engines. Its design is aimed at evolving pads, strings, choirs, plucks, bells, lo-fi drones, and other sounds that benefit from movement and density rather than a single static oscillator.

Each source has its own filters and amp shaping, while the summed voice adds more filtering and a deep modulation system with LFOs, envelopes, a matrix, and assignable macros. The granular section works with included or personal samples as clouds, loops, or one-shots, while the physical-model options include modal and waveguide-string approaches.

A modeled bucket-brigade ensemble, chorus, and echo give patches a string-machine-like spread, and the effects section extends that character with phaser, slicer, delay, hall, shimmer, spring reverb, and lo-fi wear controls. Chord mode, arpeggiation, hold, MIDI notes out, and 282 factory presets make the engine practical for both exploratory sound design and playable parts.

Aetheriae is available as VST3, AU, and CLAP, plus a standalone app and browser version. Morphor supplies current macOS and Windows installers from its exact Aetheriae page; the Windows build supports x64 and Arm64, while macOS supports Apple silicon and Intel.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of synthesis does Aetheriae combine?

Aetheriae can layer wave, sample, FM, phase-distortion, resonator, and air sources, with granular playback available for samples. The developer also includes wavetables, physical-model resonators, and modeled bucket-brigade effects in the instrument.

Can I use my own audio and wavetable material?

Yes. The official feature list says the wave source can load your own wavetable files, and the granular section can work with your own samples as grain clouds, loops, or one-shots.

How many sources can a patch layer?

Each voice can use up to eight sources. Every source has its own two filters and amp envelope, while the summed voice also has two filters for broader shaping.

Does Aetheriae include a standalone or browser version?

Yes. Alongside the plug-in builds, Morphor provides a standalone app for macOS and Windows and a browser version. The developer's product page is the current location for the platform download actions and web instrument.
