Key Features

  • Spectrum-graph editor lets you place, move, and remove resonator dots directly over a live analyzer.
  • Up to 32 steep bandpass resonator bands can be tuned into focused resonances, dense harmonic fields, drones, or metallic textures.
  • Note snap and harmonic snap modes help resonator points land on chromatic pitches or overtone relationships.
  • MIDI follow makes the resonator bank respond to incoming notes for playable or pitch-tracked effects.
  • Spectrum hold and learn-from-spectrum tools capture peak frequency shapes and turn them into editable resonator points.
  • Pink-noise excitation can drive the resonator bank when the source is quiet, creating tones and pads from the effect itself.
  • Frequency offset, frequency spread, stereo detune, steepness, resonance, dry/wet, and RMS-matched wet gain provide broad tone and width control.

Description

Polarity-RES is a spectral resonator effect from Polarity Music built around a large spectrum-graph editor. Each dot on the display becomes a steep bandpass resonator, letting you draw up to 32 tuned resonances directly onto incoming audio.

The plugin is strongest as a sound-design tool for turning drums, vocals, field recordings, synths, or noise into musical rings, drones, formant shapes, and metallic textures. Note snapping, harmonic snapping, MIDI follow, frequency offset, spread, and stereo detune keep the resonator bank musical instead of purely random.

Polarity also includes workflow features that make the effect practical while experimenting. Spectrum hold freezes a moment of the analyzer, learn-from-spectrum creates resonator points from peak frequencies, and pink-noise excitation lets the bank sing even when the input is sparse.

The current official build is v0.1.3 for Windows, macOS, and Linux, with VST3, CLAP, AU on macOS, and standalone versions available. The developer describes the download as no-account, no-email, no-telemetry, and no-license-manager software, with installation guides for each platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Polarity-RES do?

Polarity-RES turns incoming audio into a bank of tuned resonances. You place resonator dots on a spectrum display, then shape them with snapping, MIDI follow, spread, detune, resonance, and dry/wet controls.

Can Polarity-RES make sound without a strong input signal?

Yes. The official page lists built-in pink-noise excitation, which can feed the resonator bank so it produces drones, pads, and self-contained resonator tones even when the source is sparse.

How does the learn function work?

The developer describes a hold-and-learn workflow where the spectrum display can be frozen, then analyzed for peak frequencies. Polarity-RES uses those peaks to create resonator points that can be edited afterward.

Is Polarity-RES only a DAW plugin?

No. The official specs list plugin formats plus standalone builds. Windows and Linux get VST3, CLAP, and standalone, while macOS adds AU alongside VST3, CLAP, and standalone.
