Key Features

  • Pultec-style passive EQ workflow for broad low-end boosts, attenuation moves, high boosts, high attenuation, and midrange tone shaping
  • Classic simultaneous low boost and attenuation behavior for rounded bass weight with the familiar resonant Pultec-style curve
  • Tube-style drive section based on Airwindows Tube2 with automatic gain compensation for easier level-matched saturation decisions
  • Stereo, mid, and side processing modes for shaping the center image or side information independently
  • Oversampling up to 16x with selectable polyphase or FIR oversampling filters in the settings panel
  • Resizable interface and direct knob controls designed around fast tonal decisions rather than surgical EQ editing
  • Open-source GitHub release with separate 64-bit VST3 builds for Windows and Linux

Description

Pult EQ by Consistent Interruption is a Pultec-style tube EQ plugin for adding broad analog-style tone shaping, stereo width control, and harmonic color inside a simple VST3 effect. It is built for musical boosts, cuts, and saturation rather than fine surgical correction.

The low-frequency section handles the classic boost-and-attenuate move that gives Pultec-style EQs their rounded bass lift and low-mid cleanup. The high section adds separate boost and attenuation ranges plus bandwidth adjustment, so it can brighten vocals, drums, synths, and buses without behaving like a standard parametric EQ.

A drive control adds saturation based on Airwindows Tube2, with automatic gain compensation to keep level changes easier to judge. Oversampling reaches up to 16x, and the settings panel lets users choose between a low-latency polyphase filter or a phase-linear FIR oversampling filter.

The EQ can process the full stereo signal or focus on mid and side material independently. That makes Pult EQ especially useful for widening top-end air, tightening center bass, or giving a mix bus more character while keeping the interface direct and lightweight.

Installation is straightforward: unzip the download and copy the plugin folder into the system VST3 location. The current 1.0.0 release ships as 64-bit VST3 builds for Windows and Linux, with no macOS build listed by the developer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of EQ work is Pult EQ designed for?

Pult EQ is designed for broad musical tone shaping rather than precise corrective EQ. It works best when you want low-end weight, smooth top-end lift, midrange color, or saturation that changes the character of a source.

Does Pult EQ support the classic Pultec low-end trick?

Yes. The low-frequency section includes separate boost and attenuation controls on the selected low band, so boosting and cutting together creates the resonant curve associated with Pultec-style equalizers.

What does the drive control add?

The drive section adds tube-style saturation based on Airwindows Tube2. Automatic gain compensation helps keep the output level more consistent while you increase the saturation amount.

How do the mid and side modes help in a mix?

Mid mode lets you shape center content such as kick, bass, lead vocal, or snare without affecting the sides as much. Side mode is useful for adding air or color to stereo ambience and width while leaving the center more stable.
