Description

Rain and Thunder is a royalty-free field recording library from 99Sounds containing 64 stereo audio samples captured during a spring thunderstorm in Belgrade. The recordings were made in 24-bit depth using a portable Edirol R-09 stereo field recorder, with no post-processing or effects applied to any of the sounds.

The library is organized into three folders: Rain, Distant Thunder, and Heavy Thunder. The 38 rain loops have been edited to loop seamlessly, making it easy to connect multiple copies in a DAW track and build continuous rain beds at any tempo.

The 19 distant thunder recordings capture low rumble that works well as subtle background texture. These can be layered on top of the rain loops to construct natural-sounding storm ambiences for film, game audio, or music production projects.

The standout content is the seven close-range heavy thunder strikes, recorded at unusually short distance from the lightning. These one-shot samples carry intense transient energy and long, rolling tails that are difficult to capture in the field.

The urban recording environment adds organic character throughout the collection. Some samples include the sound of cars passing on wet roads, tires splashing through puddles, and pedestrians hurrying through the rain, giving the library a lived-in city atmosphere distinct from studio-processed weather effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the rain samples truly seamless loops?

Yes. The 38 samples in the Rain folder have been specifically edited to loop perfectly. You can place multiple copies end-to-end on an audio track in your DAW to create continuous rain ambience of any length.

Can I use these sounds in commercial projects like films or video games?

Yes, all 64 samples are royalty-free. You can use them in commercial music, film scores, video games, podcasts, and any other audio or multimedia project without additional licensing fees.

How are the Heavy Thunder and Distant Thunder samples different?

The 7 Heavy Thunder samples were recorded extremely close to lightning strikes, capturing loud, punchy transients with long rolling tails. The 19 Distant Thunder recordings are softer rumbles captured from further away, designed to layer behind rain loops as subtle background atmosphere.
