Key Features

  • Convolution reverb engine for loading and shaping custom impulse responses
  • IR stretch, trim, reverse, attack, decay, low-cut, high-cut, and frequency-decay controls for reshaping spaces
  • Pre/send and post/reverb MSEG modulation for ducked, gated, pumping, or rhythmic ambience
  • Paint mode, editable point types, randomization, and a built-in sequencer for drawing reverb movement quickly
  • Envelope followers for send and reverb levels, with tempo sync or Hz-rate modulation
  • MIDI trigger and audio trigger modes for restarting envelopes or switching patterns from performance input
  • Open-source GitHub release with current Windows, macOS, and Linux builds

Description

REEV-R by Tilr is an open-source convolution reverb built for real-space impulse responses, rhythmic ambience, and animated reverb movement. It loads custom IRs, then adds stretch, trim, reverse, attack, decay, filtering, waveform displays, and modulation so the reverb can become part of the groove instead of a static send effect.

The workflow is closer to a creative reverb shaper than a basic room simulator. Pre/send and post/reverb MSEG modulation, envelope followers, MIDI trigger mode, audio trigger mode, paint tools, point types, and a built-in sequencer make it useful for ducked tails, gated ambience, reverse swells, pluck movement, and sound-design transitions.

REEV-R does not ship with a large impulse-response library, so it is best paired with a user's own IR folders or third-party IR collections. The developer notes that macOS builds are unsigned and untested, while Windows, Linux, and macOS release ZIPs are available through GitHub.

Version 1.4.0 adds band splitting and fixes UI-scale recall plus crashes around send or reverb amount transformations. The project remains public under GPL-3.0, with no account gate, coupon gate, expiry language, or paid tier found in the official repository or release page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of reverb plugin is REEV-R?

REEV-R is a convolution reverb, so it uses impulse responses to create spaces and reverb characters. Its unusual strength is the modulation system around that IR engine, including MSEG curves, envelope followers, paint tools, triggers, and a sequencer.

Does REEV-R include impulse responses?

The official README says REEV-R does not come with impulse response files other than the default one. Users should point the plugin to an existing IR folder or install third-party reverb IRs for a wider range of spaces.

How does REEV-R compare to Cableguys ReverbShaper?

The developer explicitly notes that REEV-R became similar to ReverbShaper because both shape reverb movement with pattern-style modulation. ReverbShaper is more polished and commercial, while REEV-R focuses on open-source convolution reverb with custom IR loading and detailed modulation.

What should Mac users know before installing it?

The official README says the macOS builds are unsigned and untested. Users may need to remove the macOS quarantine flag from the AU, VST3, or LV2 plugin bundle before their DAW will load it.
