Key Features

  • Generates random overdrive pedal models by changing the neural-network structure with the Remake control.
  • Simple Drive, Gate, and Post-Gain controls keep the workflow focused on fast auditioning instead of deep circuit editing.
  • Model saver lets users keep generated pedal sounds for later recall.
  • Audio demos and oscilloscope examples on the official page show how different each generated model can behave.
  • Runs as a 64-bit VST3 effect on macOS and Windows, with AU support on macOS.
  • Native Apple Silicon and Intel Mac support is listed on the developer page.
  • Sampleson recommends using a 48 kHz DAW session for more accurate model generation.

Description

rePEDAL is a beta guitar overdrive effect from Sampleson that generates new pedal models with machine learning. Instead of modeling one known stompbox, it randomizes a neural-network structure each time you press Remake, then lets you drive, gate, level, and save the result.

That makes it more of a tone-discovery tool than a traditional amp-suite workhorse. It is useful when a guitar, synth, bass, or drum loop needs a distorted edge that does not sound like the same familiar Tube Screamer, RAT, or fuzz-pedal emulation.

The official page keeps the control set intentionally small: Drive amount, Gate, Post-Gain, Remake, and model saving. Sampleson also recommends running the DAW at 48 kHz for more accurate model generation, and the page includes audio demos plus oscilloscope examples showing how varied the generated wave shapes can become.

The plugin is still labeled beta at version 0.8.0, so it should be treated as an experimental creative effect rather than a finished utility processor. It supports 64-bit VST3 on Windows and macOS, AU on macOS, native Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and requires online activation through Sampleson's account system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Remake button do in rePEDAL?

Remake generates a new random overdrive pedal model by changing the structure of the neural network. Each click can produce a different distortion response, so the plugin is designed for exploration and saving useful results.

Is rePEDAL a full amp simulator?

No. The official page presents rePEDAL as an overdrive pedal maker, not a complete amp, cabinet, microphone, and effects suite, so it is best used before or inside a broader guitar-processing chain.

Why does Sampleson recommend 48 kHz sessions?

Sampleson recommends setting the DAW to 48 kHz for more accurate model generation. That note appears on the official product page and is worth following when auditioning generated pedal models.

Does rePEDAL require Pro Tools?

No. The developer lists VST3 and AU support, but also states that Pro Tools is not supported, which means there is no AAX version listed for this beta.
