Description
Sapphire Guitar 2 by ZAK Sound is a sample-based virtual guitar instrument that transforms real guitar recordings into ambient soundscapes, evolving textures, and atmospheric pads. Built around a dual-layer engine with dedicated arpeggiators and a full effects suite, it turns acoustic, electric, classical, and folk guitar samples into playable musical elements suited for ambient, lo-fi, and cinematic production.
The plugin ships with 17 unique layers in the Essential version, each derived from recordings that capture different playing techniques including palm-muted strings, open chords, fretboard notes, harmonics, and short plucked notes. Five ambient texture knobs let you blend atmospheric character into any selected instrument, ranging from subtle grit that enhances presence to heavy textures that push the sound into lo-fi territory.
An onboard effects panel provides drive, reverb, delay, and chorus processing, while LPF, HPF, and full ADSR controls handle tonal shaping. A built-in LFO with adjustable speed, waveform, and depth pairs with stereo width control to add movement, modulation, and immersive spatial depth.
ZAK Sound designed Sapphire Guitar not as a conventional guitar emulation but as a tool for creating something new out of guitars. All samples were recorded with condenser microphones and line inputs, then processed in-studio before being packaged as a standalone plugin requiring no additional sampler engine.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Sapphire Guitar Essential and Max?
The Essential version is completely free and includes 17 unique instrument layers with the full effects suite. The Max version ($39) expands to 58 unique layers and 122 presets, and adds the ability to save custom presets and a preset randomizer. All controls and effects are identical in both versions.
Can Sapphire Guitar produce realistic strummed guitar parts?
Sapphire Guitar is not designed for realistic guitar strumming or chord accompaniment. It specializes in transforming guitar samples into ambient soundscapes, evolving textures, and atmospheric pads. For realistic strumming patterns, a dedicated virtual guitarist plugin would be a better fit.
How much disk space does Sapphire Guitar Essential require?
The Essential version requires approximately 150 MB of free disk space on macOS or 120 MB on Windows. You also need at least 4 GB of RAM. The initial download is around 1.3 GB, which extracts to the smaller installed size.
Does Sapphire Guitar support Linux?
Yes, Sapphire Guitar 2 supports Ubuntu 20.04 or higher as a VST3 plugin. This makes it one of the few virtual guitar instruments natively available on Linux without requiring Wine or other compatibility layers.
