Description

Stargazer by Linda Audio is a hybrid delay and reverb plugin built around a shimmer grain generator. It transforms any input signal into ethereal, shimmering soundscapes, string-like ensembles, or organ-like textures using a network of pitch-shifting delay lines.

Unlike traditional shimmer reverb designs, Stargazer feeds short pitch-shifted grains back through a scalable delay network of two to thirteen lines. With fewer lines the individual delay taps are clearly audible, while thirteen lines produce dense, smooth reverb tails with remarkable depth.

The delay network offers adjustable size, predelay, feedback, damping filter, high-pass filter, and stereo width controls. A built-in chorus modulation adds movement, and the Organize mode filters and reshapes the input to create a pipe organ-like character with two selectable voicings.

The grain generator lets you adjust grain size, pitch-shifted feedback amount, wet/dry mix, octave direction (up or down), and attack speed. Bedroom Producers Blog described the sound as "lush, almost orchestral-like," noting that it immediately impressed within seconds of first use.

Stargazer includes undo/redo, A/B comparison, and 15 factory presets. It is available as a VST2 and VST3 plugin for Windows in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, distributed as a single DLL file that requires no installer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Stargazer differ from a traditional shimmer reverb?

Most shimmer reverbs use a conventional reverb algorithm with pitch shifting applied to the tail. Stargazer instead builds its reverb from a network of delay lines that each generate short pitch-shifted grains fed back into the network. This architecture lets you morph between distinct delay echoes and dense reverb by adjusting the number of active lines.

What does the Organize mode do in Stargazer?

The Organize mode filters and modulates the input signal in a way that gives it a pipe organ-like character. It has two selectable voicings, and when combined with the shimmer grain generator it produces rich, harmonically layered textures that resemble organ or choir ensembles.

How does Stargazer compare to Valhalla Shimmer?

Valhalla Shimmer ($50) is the industry standard shimmer reverb with extensive modulation options. Stargazer takes a different approach with its scalable delay network architecture, offering more control over the transition between delay and reverb character. Stargazer is Windows-only, while Valhalla Shimmer supports both macOS and Windows.

Does Stargazer require an installer?

No. Stargazer is distributed as a single DLL file. You simply copy the DLL into your VST plugin folder and your DAW will detect it on the next scan. Version 1.0.1 is available for download directly from Linda Audio's website.
