Description

The Filtermate by Synthescience is a rhythmic filter module designed to add tempo-synced movement and animation to any audio signal. Built around a clock-driven LFO coupled to a multimode filter and mixer, it mirrors the filter section architecture found on classic vintage synthesizers but packaged as a standalone effect plugin.

The LFO offers sine, saw, square, and sample-and-hold waveforms, with a clock driver that locks modulation rate to the host tempo. The multimode filter provides low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch modes, giving you a range of tonal shaping options for each rhythmic pattern.

Synthescience designed the interface with minimal controllers so you can animate static tracks almost instantly. The plugin works as a stereo insert, and when placed on a mono track it processes only one audio channel, which makes the Phase-R function inactive in that configuration.

With 64 preset slots and several factory presets included, The Filtermate serves as a quick starting point for rhythmic filtering effects. Every parameter is fully automatable from within your DAW, allowing precise control over filter sweeps during arrangement and mixdown.

The plugin was built with SynthEdit and is available as a 32-bit VST for Windows only. The developer website is no longer active, though the plugin remains available through third-party archives and download sites.

Frequently Asked Questions

What waveforms are available in The Filtermate's LFO?

The Filtermate includes four LFO waveforms: sine, saw, square, and sample-and-hold. Each can be synced to your DAW's tempo via the built-in clock driver, letting you create everything from smooth sweeps to choppy rhythmic patterns.

Does The Filtermate work on 64-bit DAWs?

No. The Filtermate is a 32-bit VST plugin for Windows only. To use it in a 64-bit DAW, you would need a bridging tool like jBridge or the 32-bit bridge built into some older DAW versions.

Why does the Phase-R function have no effect on mono tracks?

The Filtermate is designed as a stereo insert plugin. When placed on a mono channel, audio is only processed through one side, so the Phase-R stereo manipulation function has nothing to work with. Use it on stereo tracks or buses for the full effect.

Is the Synthescience website still available for downloading The Filtermate?

The original Synthescience website is no longer active. However, The Filtermate can still be downloaded from third-party plugin archives that host the original files.
