Description

VK-1 Viking Synthesizer by Blamsoft is a monophonic virtual analog instrument modeled after the Moog Voyager hardware synthesizer. It features three continuously variable wave oscillators, two transistor ladder filters with dual lowpass or highpass/lowpass configuration, a multi-wave LFO, and two modulation buses.

The oscillators were measured from actual hardware and include analog-style drift and jitter for authentic behavior. Advanced anti-aliasing techniques keep the output clean, while the nonlinear zero-delay feedback filters deliver self-oscillation tuned to match the original circuit.

VK-1 ships with 228 factory presets spanning bass, bright lead, electro bass, FX, percussive lead, soft lead, and synthwave categories. Sound designer eXode contributed 50 electro bass and 50 synthwave patches that highlight the synth's range from aggressive sub-bass to shimmering retro leads.

The interface mirrors the Moog Voyager's hardware layout, with sections organized across six pages for quick navigation. Knobs and sliders expand during editing so your adjustments are never obscured by the cursor.

While it stays true to the monophonic character of its hardware inspiration, VK-1 is capable of producing rich bass, expressive leads, evolving pads, and textured FX sounds. CPU usage sits around 7% on a modern system, making it practical for sessions with multiple instances.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hardware synthesizer does VK-1 Viking Synthesizer emulate?

VK-1 Viking Synthesizer is modeled after the Moog Voyager hardware synthesizer. Blamsoft measured the oscillators from actual hardware and used zero-delay feedback filter modeling to reproduce the sonic characteristics of the original analog circuits.

Does VK-1 Viking Synthesizer support polyphony?

No, VK-1 is strictly a monophonic synthesizer, just like the hardware Moog Voyager it emulates. It plays one note at a time, which is ideal for bass lines, lead melodies, and glide-based patches.

How many presets come with VK-1 Viking Synthesizer?

VK-1 includes 228 factory presets organized into seven categories: Bass, Bright Lead, Electro Bass, FX, Percussive Lead, Soft Lead, and Synthwave. Sound designer eXode created 100 of these patches, covering the Electro Bass and Synthwave categories.

What is the CPU usage of VK-1 Viking Synthesizer?

VK-1 uses approximately 7% CPU on a modern system, which is a moderate footprint for a monophonic synthesizer. This makes it practical to run several instances simultaneously in a typical production session.
