Description
Wave Manuel is a waveshaping synthesizer designed and engineered by Finnish developer Pauli Pölkki. Built on the iPlug2 framework, it centers on a unique variable shape oscillator controlled by three parameters—symmetry, saturation, and shaping—that can generate classic analog-style waveforms like triangle, saw, and pulse, along with entirely new shapes that go beyond traditional virtual analog synthesis.
Each oscillator parameter has its own dedicated envelope and LFO, giving you deep control over how the waveform evolves over time. The envelopes feature attack, decay, and release stages with adjustable curve control, while the LFOs can operate in stereo with a 180-degree phase offset for dramatically wide sounds.
Beyond the oscillator, Wave Manuel includes an FM section, a filter section, and an amp section, each with their own envelope and LFO for layered modulation. Pitch, vibrato, and velocity controls add further expression, and a built-in reverb processor with decay, pre-delay, damping, and color parameters rounds out the signal chain.
Version 2.0 introduced a redesigned interface created in collaboration with artist Jugi Kaartinen, featuring a striking blue color scheme and refined layout. It also shipped with new factory presets by sine:noise, expanding the starting palette for sound designers.
The synth was featured as the tool of the month in KVR Audio’s One Synth Challenge in December 2022, with users praising its deceptively deep yet approachable design. A real-time waveform display in the top-right corner provides immediate visual feedback as you sculpt each patch.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Wave Manuel different from a standard wavetable synth?
Unlike wavetable synths that cycle through pre-built tables, Wave Manuel uses a variable shape oscillator with three real-time parameters (symmetry, saturation, shaping) that continuously morph the waveform. This lets you sculpt shapes that sit between and beyond classic analog waveforms, rather than stepping through a fixed set of snapshots.
How does the stereo LFO mode work in Wave Manuel?
Each oscillator parameter's LFO can run in stereo with a 180-degree phase offset between the left and right channels. This means the waveform morphs in opposite directions in each ear, creating a wide stereo image from a single oscillator without requiring additional effects or processing.
Does Wave Manuel include any built-in effects?
Yes, Wave Manuel has a built-in reverb processor with four adjustable parameters: decay, pre-delay, damping, and color. The amp section also includes a drive control for adding saturation before the reverb stage.
What changed in Wave Manuel 2.0 compared to version 1?
Version 2.0 introduced a completely redesigned user interface created with designer Jugi Kaartinen, featuring a new blue color scheme and refined layout. It also added new factory presets by sine:noise and included numerous bug fixes, though the core synthesis engine remained the same.
