Description
Wave Manuel 2.0 is a waveshaping synthesizer plugin from Finnish developer Pauli Pölkki, built around a unique variable shape oscillator controlled by three parameters: symmetry, saturation, and shaping. These controls can generate classic analog-style waveforms like triangle, saw, and pulse, but the real character emerges when you push between and beyond those familiar shapes.
Each oscillator parameter has its own dedicated envelope with attack, decay, and release stages, plus curve controls for fine-tuning the response. A dedicated LFO per parameter can animate the waveshape in real time, and these LFOs support stereo operation with a 180-degree phase offset for an exceptionally wide sound field.
The signal path continues into a frequency modulation stage and filter section, adding further tonal sculpting possibilities. Version 2.0 brought a completely redesigned interface by artist Jugi Kaartinen, new presets contributed by sine:noise, and numerous bug fixes.
The plugin gained community recognition when it was featured as the instrument for KVR Audio's One Synth Challenge #166, where producers demonstrated its versatility across ambient, trance, synthwave, and experimental genres. Users consistently praise how intuitive it is to find unique timbres without deep synthesis knowledge.
Wave Manuel is available in VST3 and Audio Unit formats for 64-bit Windows and macOS systems. The plugin requires a CPU with AVX2 instruction set support.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Wave Manuel require AVX2 CPU support?
Yes, Wave Manuel requires a processor with AVX2 instruction set support. Users without AVX2-capable CPUs have reported crashes on launch. Most Intel processors from 2013 onward (Haswell and later) and AMD processors from 2015 onward (Excavator and later) include AVX2.
What kind of sounds can Wave Manuel produce?
Wave Manuel excels at evolving pads, wide stereo textures, trance leads, and experimental timbres. The variable shape oscillator can morph between familiar analog shapes and entirely new waveforms, while the stereo LFOs and FM section add movement and harmonic richness. It was featured in KVR's One Synth Challenge where producers showcased everything from ambient soundscapes to aggressive bass patches.
Is Wave Manuel compatible with both VST3 and AU hosts?
Wave Manuel supports VST3 and Audio Unit plugin formats on 64-bit systems. It works in major DAWs including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, and Reaper, though some users in the KVR community reported occasional stability issues in certain hosts that were addressed in subsequent updates.
How does the stereo LFO feature work?
Each oscillator parameter has its own LFO that can operate in stereo mode with a 180-degree phase offset between the left and right channels. This means the waveshape morphs differently in each channel simultaneously, producing a naturally wide and immersive sound without needing external stereo widening plugins.
