Description

CCStepper is a MIDI continuous controller sequencer by CodeFN42 for shaping parameters on software instruments, effects, and external MIDI hardware. It sends controller data rather than generating audio, so it needs a compatible destination and a host capable of routing MIDI output.

One instance provides up to eight independent sequences, each with up to 128 steps. Use separate lanes to create repeating changes to several MIDI-controlled parameters, such as filter cutoff or effect depth, provided the receiving device responds to the chosen CC messages.

Sequences can follow the host or respond to incoming MIDI notes, making the plugin useful for both arranged automation and hands-on triggering. Step rates range from 1/128 notes to 32 bars, covering quick rhythmic changes and slow-moving patterns.

Randomization and alternative sequence orders add variation to programmed values and playback direction. The developer also lists a Note Step trigger mode that advances the sequence with each incoming note or chord, plus manual entry of step values.

The current version is a 64-bit VST2 plugin for Windows 7 or higher. Check that your DAW supports VST2 and can route MIDI from the plugin to the instrument or hardware you want to control before building a session around it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does CCStepper generate sound?

No. It sends MIDI CC data to a compatible software instrument, effect, or external device, which responds to the controller messages.

How many sequences can it run?

One instance supports up to eight independent sequences. Each sequence can contain up to 128 steps.

Does CCStepper work on macOS or as VST3?

The developer lists a 64-bit VST2 version for Windows 7 or higher. A macOS or VST3 version is not listed.

Can I trigger a sequence from MIDI notes?

Yes. CCStepper can be triggered by MIDI notes, and its Note Step mode advances a step for each incoming note or chord.
