Description

CollaB3 V2 is a spectral-modeled tonewheel organ emulation built by Sampleson in collaboration with Librewave, LalalandAudio, and Studio427 Audio. Originally released in 2020 as a pandemic-era collaborative project, V2 delivers a rebuilt sound engine with improved CPU efficiency and a dedicated rotary speaker model.

The plugin reproduces the characteristic behavior of classic tonewheel organs, including drawbar-based tone shaping, key-click transients, and inter-tonewheel leakage. Built-in chorus, reverb, and percussion round out the sound palette.

V2 introduced modeled rotary amplifier emulation with amp circuit distortion and wood cabinet resonance captured through impulse responses. The result is a warm, swirling tone that responds naturally to speed changes between chorale and tremolo settings.

Users consistently rank it among the best-sounding organs in its class, noting its deep, authentic character and rich harmonic complexity. Some have reported higher memory usage in certain DAW configurations, so lighter sessions may benefit.

CollaB3 runs as a standalone application or inside any major DAW, with no third-party dependencies like Kontakt or UVI required. The interface scales to 4K resolution and supports both Intel and Apple Silicon processors natively.

Frequently Asked Questions

What changed between CollaB3 V1 and V2?

V2 features a completely rebuilt spectral-modeled sound engine with improved CPU efficiency, new key-click and leakage modeling, and a dedicated rotary speaker emulation with amp distortion and cabinet impulse responses. The interface was also updated with 4K scaling and native Apple Silicon support.

What is the difference between CollaB3 and CollaB3 Pro?

The free version uses the same sound engine as the Pro. The Pro version adds a custom Rotary Amplifier panel with 7 tweakable parameters including independent horn and drum speed, acceleration, amp distortion amount, mic position emulations, and secondary sound reflections. It costs $10.

Does CollaB3 support MIDI sustain pedal?

CollaB3 uses no velocity-switching by design, following the behavior of real tonewheel organs where keys are either on or off. MIDI sustain pedal support depends on your DAW's MIDI routing configuration rather than the plugin itself.

Can CollaB3 handle full polyphony across all drawbar settings?

Yes, CollaB3's spectral modeling engine handles full polyphony without note-stealing. Unlike sample-based organ plugins, the tonewheel modeling approach does not have a fixed voice limit, though CPU usage increases with more simultaneous notes and active drawbars.
