Key Features

  • Three independent delay bands (low, mid, high) with adjustable crossover frequencies spanning 0 Hz to 20,000 Hz for precise frequency-specific delay processing
  • Stereo delay engine with separate left and right channels per band, each with independent delay time and feedback controls
  • Six dedicated filters (one per channel per band) with low pass, high pass, band pass, peaking, and band reject modes plus cutoff and resonance
  • Six multimode LFOs with tempo sync and free-running options for animated filter modulation across all bands
  • Analog-modeled crossover algorithm that splits the frequency spectrum with warm, musical accuracy based on physical hardware behavior
  • Full MIDI controller mapping and DAW automation on every parameter for real-time tactile control during performance and mixing
  • Single-panel GUI with all parameters visible at once and no hidden menus, designed to keep the creative workflow fast and uninterrupted

Description

Delay Studio by Minimal System Instruments is a multiband delay plugin built for the KVR Developer Challenge 2012. It splits incoming audio into three independent frequency bands (low, mid, high) with precise crossover control from 0 Hz to 20,000 Hz, letting you apply completely different delay treatments to each part of the spectrum.

Each band features separate left and right delay channels with independent time and feedback controls, plus a dedicated filter per channel. Filter types include low pass, high pass, band pass, peaking, and band reject, all with cutoff and resonance parameters.

Six multimode LFOs drive filter modulation with tempo-synced or free-running rates, opening up rhythmic and textural delay effects that evolve over time. The crossover algorithm is modeled on analog hardware behavior for warm, musical band separation.

VU meters on every band provide visual feedback during mixing, while input/output level controls and a stereo balance knob keep your signal chain under control. Every parameter supports full MIDI mapping and DAW automation for hands-on performance.

The single-panel interface keeps all controls visible without hidden menus, making it straightforward to dial in everything from subtle multi-tap echoes to heavily modulated, frequency-specific delay textures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Delay Studio work on 64-bit systems?

Delay Studio is a 32-bit plugin, but it runs on 64-bit systems using jBridge. It also works natively in 64-bit versions of Cubase, Nuendo, Bitwig Studio, Reaper, Tracktion, Renoise, FL Studio, Sonar, Mixcraft, and Samplitude through their built-in bridging.

How does the multiband processing differ from a standard delay?

Instead of applying one delay to the full signal, Delay Studio splits audio into three frequency bands using an analog-modeled crossover. Each band gets its own delay times, feedback amounts, filters, and LFO modulation, so you can create completely different delay characters for bass, mids, and highs simultaneously.

Can the LFOs be synced to the DAW tempo?

Yes. All six LFOs support both tempo-synced and free-running modes. When synced, the filter modulation locks to your project tempo for rhythmic delay effects that stay in time with the track.
