Description
GlowComp by SNFK Music is a stereo bus compressor built to glue multiple instruments together on a mix bus without crushing dynamics. It takes a gentle approach to gain reduction, making it well suited for the kind of transparent, cohesive compression that holds a mix together while keeping transients intact.
The plugin centers on a straightforward control set: input and output knobs, attack and release timing, and five built-in compression ratios. Pushing the input knob harder drives the compressor into harmonic saturation, adding warmth and subtle coloration on top of the compression itself.
Each ratio preset changes more than just the ratio value. SNFK designed the internal parameters to shift together when switching ratios, giving each setting a distinct character rather than simply adjusting the threshold-to-output curve.
An LCD-style display shows real-time input, output, and gain reduction values, providing visual feedback on how the compressor is responding to the signal. The interface is clean and modern with a distinctive neon glow aesthetic.
GlowComp's processing algorithm was optimized for low CPU usage, making it practical to run on multiple buses within a session. It is available in VST3 and AU formats for Windows and macOS.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does pushing the input knob do beyond increasing volume?
Driving the input harder generates extra harmonics on top of the compression. This adds warmth and subtle saturation to the signal, similar to how analog bus compressors color audio when driven into gain reduction.
How do the five ratio presets differ from a standard ratio control?
Each ratio preset changes more than just the compression ratio. SNFK designed the internal parameters to shift together, so switching between ratios gives noticeably different compression characters rather than simply adjusting how much gain reduction is applied.
Is GlowComp suitable for mastering or only mixing?
GlowComp was designed primarily for bus and subgroup compression during mixing. It lacks oversampling, which some engineers prefer for mastering-grade transparency. For mix bus glue and subgroup duties, it performs well.
Can GlowComp be used on individual tracks or only buses?
While it is optimized for bus and subgroup processing, its low CPU usage makes it practical on individual tracks as well. The gentle compression character and harmonic saturation can add cohesion to drums, vocals, or any instrument that benefits from light compression.
