GOAT
Key Features
- BEEF macro combines density, drive, compression, saturation, and added weight in one control
- BITE control adds presence and more aggressive upper harmonics
- Dry/wet MIX fader supports parallel processing without a separate routing chain
- 4x oversampled nonlinear processing helps control aliasing as the effect is driven harder
- Internal gain compensation and subsonic filtering keep level and low-frequency buildup manageable
- Full DAW automation, plugin-state recall, and a resizable interface support regular session use
- Animated goat character reacts to the BEEF setting for immediate visual feedback
Description
GOAT is a three-control fattener, saturation, and character effect for adding density, aggression, and presence without building a longer processing chain. Eli & Flo created it for their own hardstyle production workflow, then released it as a permanently free tool for Windows and macOS.
BEEF combines drive, compression, saturation, and added weight in one control, moving from subtle thickness toward a denser and more aggressive sound. BITE adds upper-harmonic presence, while the MIX fader blends the processed signal with the original for parallel treatment.
The nonlinear processing runs at 4x oversampling and includes internal gain compensation plus subsonic filtering. GOAT also supports full DAW automation, plugin-state recall, a resizable interface, and an animated goat character that reacts as BEEF increases.
The simple layout is designed for quick work on kicks, drum buses, basses, leads, synths, vocals, and sound-design material. Version 1.0.0 is distributed from the official itch.io page as a 25 MB package, with VST3 for Windows and VST3 plus Audio Unit for macOS.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the BEEF control change?
BEEF coordinates density, drive, compression, saturation, and weight. Lower settings add thickness, while higher settings make the signal denser and more aggressive.
How is BITE different from BEEF?
BITE focuses on presence and aggressive harmonics rather than the main density and compression effect. Use it to push a sound forward after setting the overall weight with BEEF.
Can GOAT be used for parallel processing?
Yes. The MIX fader blends the processed and original signals inside the plugin, so you can add a small amount of saturation and compression or run the effect fully wet.
What is the animated goat showing?
The character reacts to the BEEF setting and provides visual feedback as the processing becomes more intense. It does not replace metering, but it matches the plugin's fast, ear-led workflow.
