Key Features

  • Models a 12AX7 tube stage for asymmetric saturation with even and odd harmonics.
  • Pre-saturation Tilt EQ shifts tonal emphasis before the signal reaches the tube model.
  • Mid/Side control can direct processing toward the center, full stereo image, or sides.
  • Level, Color, and Color Boost offer progressively stronger harmonic character.
  • Mix control supports parallel saturation without separate routing.
  • Selectable x1, x2, x4, and x8 oversampling modes reduce aliasing during harmonic processing.
  • Gain Unity compensates level changes for more reliable processed-versus-bypassed comparisons.

Description

Mr.Warmer is a saturation effect from MrMoustache that combines a modeled 12AX7 tube stage with a pre-saturation Tilt EQ and adjustable mid/side processing. It is aimed at broad tonal enrichment: drive the input and Level controls for added harmonic density, then use Color and Color Boost to choose how far the effect moves from subtle thickening toward stronger character.

The Tilt control changes the tonal balance before the tube stage, so the low or high part of the spectrum can drive the saturation more strongly. This makes it useful for gently warming a darker mix, adding brighter edge before coloration, or adjusting a source's overall emphasis without opening a separate EQ.

Its M/S dial can focus the processing on the center, the full stereo signal, or the sides. Alongside the Mix control, that provides a direct way to blend parallel color and keep a stereo decision inside one effects slot.

Mr.Warmer also includes input and output gain, automatic Gain Unity compensation for fair bypass comparisons, and x1, x2, x4, or x8 oversampling. Factory presets, scalable Classic and Dark interfaces, and no iLok requirement keep the workflow straightforward for mix-bus and source-processing sessions.

The developer positions the plugin for the final mastering stage, but its tone, blend, and stereo controls also suit individual tracks and buses. It is available as a 64-bit VST3 or AAX plug-in on Windows and macOS, with AU support on macOS.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Tilt control do in Mr.Warmer?

Tilt changes the tonal balance before the saturation stage. Moving it toward the low or high side changes which portion of the spectrum drives the tube model more strongly, so it affects both tone and the resulting color.

How does Mr.Warmer's mid/side control work?

At 0%, it processes the Mid channel; at 50%, it processes the full stereo signal; and at 100%, it processes the Side channel. This can target saturation toward the center or the width of a stereo source without separate routing.

What is Color Boost for?

Color Boost adds a second saturation stage after the tube model. The developer describes it as a way to add more intermodulated harmonics and push the effect toward a more pronounced creative treatment.

Why use Gain Unity when adding saturation?

Saturation can make a signal louder as well as more colored, which can make a louder setting appear preferable in a quick comparison. Gain Unity automatically compensates the added level so bypass checks can focus more clearly on the tonal change.
